Duties and
Responsibilities: As a periodontist, you'll treat patients who have gum disease
and other issues in the gums and bones surrounding the jaw. Your work may be
surgical or non-surgical and might include tasks like placing implants,
developing treatment plans, and providing preventative care. You may also
perform cosmetic procedures, including tissue grafts or reductions to alter the
way a person's smile looks. Part of your job might also be to help patients
resolve issues like tooth sensitivity. While most dentists work in their own
private practices, you might also work in a group practice, clinic, dental
school, or hospital.
Salary: $270,000
per year
Education: All
dentists must have a bachelor’s degree before acceptance into an accredited
dental school. Obtaining a bachelor’s degree in a science discipline such as
biology, chemistry or life science can increase changes to be acceptance into a
dental school. Acceptance into an accredited dental school requires passing the
Dental Acceptance Test during the junior year of undergraduate studies. Dental
school typically takes an additional four years of studies. Periodontists study
for an additional two to four years after dental school.

Duties and responsibilities: Certification is the process of assessing a dental
technician's knowledge and the applied skill level necessary to perform the
tasks required of a dental technician. The skill standard, based upon this
knowledge and applied skill, is the level required to perform successfully and
is the baseline for certification testing. Once the dental technician
successfully passes all three of the examinations, they are then considered a
Certified Dental Technician and issued the CDT designation.
Salary: $36,000
Education: All dental technicians who possess the required
education and/or experience, have a working knowledge of the English language,
and have not been found guilty of practicing dentistry illegally are eligible
to become a Certified Dental Technician.

Duties and Responsibilities: If
you have a problem affecting your ear, nose or throat, you need the expert care
of an ENT (ear, nose and throat specialist), also known as an otolaryngologist.
We treat a wide range of these conditions in our otolaryngology clinic in
Burlington, Vermont.
An ENT undergoes specialized training to diagnose and treat problems of
the ear, nose and throat. Our experienced team consists of:

Board-certified otolaryngologists with
subspecialty training and experience in:

Facial plastic surgery
·
Head and neck surgery
·
Thyroid and parathyroid surgery
·
Voice disorders
·
Nasal and sinus disease, including nasal
allergies

Otology and neurotology (care of ear and
hearing disorders)
Salary: $184,650 a year
Education: Ear, nose and throat doctors, often called
ENTs, need a medical degree and a license to practice in their state. ENTs
study ear, nose and throat conditions, referred to as otolaryngology, and make
diagnoses, prescribe treatments and perform surgeries related to the head,
neck, face and throat. During their residency at a hospital or medical
facility, medical school students train and have hands-on experience with
patients under the direct supervision of licensed doctors. Even though ENTs
specialize in their field, they are educated, trained and equipped to handle
other medical concerns, including life-threatening emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities: A
clinical manager is responsible for overseeing the medical and administrative
operations of clinics and other medical facilities, and for supervising both
clinical and administrative staff. The
role of clinical manager is similar to that of a practice administrator, but it
includes recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of medical staff such as
physicians, nurses, and orderlies as well as administrative employees such as
billing clerks and medical coders.
The clinical director is responsible for setting up policies and
procedures; updating and retaining medical records; interacting with patients
regarding billing and setting appointments; and working with insurance
companies and regulatory agencies. This
position is also responsible for auditing medical procedures and treatments to
be sure that the patient care provided by the facility is safe, effective, and
in accordance with established medical standards.
Salary: $76,000
Education: The position of
clinical manager generally requires at least a bachelor’s degree in a field
related to medical administration or health care administration. A clinical director should also have several
years of experience working in a medical environment such as a clinic or
doctor’s office. People in clinical
management or directorial positions generally work in the facilities they
supervise, where they can observe procedures, interact with patients, and
address staff concerns when needed.
