Salary: $150,000

Education: The Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) degree program offers clinically focused postgraduate study leading to a clinical doctoral degree. A DAOM degree represents the highest formal educational credential for acupuncturists in the United States.

Duties and Responsibilities: Sports doctors are medical professionals whose specialty is the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injuries from athletic activities. These doctors generally focus on joint, bone and muscle health, although they also offer more generalized medical care as well to the people with whom they work. Sports medicine prepares these doctors for work either in a traditional hospital or clinic setting, or in sporting events at both the professional and college levels. No matter where they choose to work, sports doctors enjoy the deep gratification of helping active people recover from sports-related injuries and return to the lifestyles they love.

Salary: A median annual salary of $151,571 as of May 2014


Education: Becoming a sports medicine physician requires completing a four-year pre-medical degree at an accredited college, plus an additional four years of medical school. After these educational requirements are met, sports medicine physicians must complete a medical residency and fellowship before continuing on to obtain a state license. Education and training required to become a sports medicine physician should take about 15 years in total. A specialist often consults with people directly on lifestyle, eating and exercise habits and may direct an individual to a doctor for any serious health concerns.

Education: The National Wellness Institute's Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP) designation symbolizes an individual's strong academic preparation, professional competency in wellness programming, and commitment to continuing education, scholarship and professional development. The NWI Council on Wellness Accreditation and Education periodically reviews national standards to ensure the CWP designation reflects high-quality health promotion and wellness preparation.
